In this weeks reading, we learned about Productivity Applications. Basically, we learned about Microsoft Word, the other components of Microsoft Office, and other apps that come with the computer and help the user. Most importantly, we learned about programs like Excel, which are spreadsheets that help with finances.
I would definitely be using the spreadsheet tool for my business in order to help with keeping track of everything. I would be able to make formulas and functions that would give me a future look at how my sales are going. I would be able to keep all of the prices of manufacturing the product in one place, and keep them there so that they can constantly update. This would be key in running a successful business.
I could also use some of the apps mentioned (such as word, and some of the more complex Adobe Apps) to make advertisements for my product. I would have the numerous options for the font, the location of the text, the images, and the colors that I would use. Considering that advertising would be key in getting my product out there, these apps would provide me with a great source to create these ads.

My Invention and Software
In this week's lecture and reading, we learned about software and how it works with the computer. We learned about the different types of software, the different ways in which a computer acts with it, and the ways in which it can be updated. Software is relevant to my invention because I would be able to use it to help make my product better.
Say a new music game comes out, or some new instruments come out for the game, my current invention would not be able to read them and help convert them to the right signal. However, if my company were to use software, we could help remedy this problem. We could produce software updates that could be downloaded to the device that recognized the new instruments and then was able to make them compatible.
These software updates could come through the computer, where if you plugged the device in and went to the company website, you could update it. They could also be available, and probably more conveniently so, through the game system and the internet connection that all current systems provide. This software updating would help my inventions reliability and would allow it to last longer, as it would adapt to the times.

Universal Music Game Connector and Input Devices.
This week in lecture we learned about the various input, output, and storage devices. Things such as the keyboard and the mouse act as input devices because you use them to get something to appear on the output device (computer monitor). This lecture had importance to my invention because my invention is an input device for gaming systems.
Since my invention has a USB connector attatched to the end (and since gaming systems have USB ports in them), my Universal Connector can be thought of as an input device. Although the user has no literal control over the device, the reading of the instrument's signal and then the device's decision on which instrument it is allows the system to connect to the instrument. Because of this interaction, the device is an input device.
The Universal Music Game Connector can also act as a storage device. You can decide to save each individual instrument to the connector, so that the second you plug it in/wirelessly connect it, it remembers the instrument. This added function gets rid of any extra hassle that the user would face and helps to streamline the whole system.

Invention Idea and Memory
So, I've decided to come up with the idea to make all instruments that come with the games Guitar Hero and Rock Band compatible on all systems. Similar to a Universal Remote, this USB attatchable device will easily go into one of the many USB ports on all of the current consoles, and will have a sensor inside to find out which system's instrument is trying to connect to which system. Once this is connected, it will work as if it were an instrument for that system. This device is available with open USB ports as well, so that you can plug wired instruments in without a problem.
In this weeks lecture, we learned about a computer's storage space, as well as the pieces of information that the computer uses to store and transmit information (bits). With regards to my invention, which is going to have to have a processor inside to read the signals being sent from the instruments, this lecture talked about one of the most important parts to my invention.
This type of information is going to be the building block of my invention, as I am going to have to have the right type of information in this microchip and in the processor so that the transmitter works smootly, and, frankly, correctly. Without the correct information, the invention will get complaints (which are easily and quickly spread), and the invention/company will go down in flames. The most important thing, though, is having all of the pieces of the processor working together to make the right calculations and decisons, therefore making a reliable and popular product.
